Hardly anyone cares if the next door neighbor lives in a tiny home… but, there are areas where keeping the costs up, are important… but, those are the ‘estate’ neighborhoods. Living in Glendale AZ… few to no one really cares. And any one who does care, does so because they are brainwashed. But, there are municipalities where a home needs to be at least 800 sf or something. You are right about the insurance influence.

Zoning rules are not really laws. At this point, it’s just a weapon and a hurdle.
